All about Brazil, and Bossa Nova too!

I love Brazil in more ways than one! It’s one of my most fancied travel destinations aside from Ireland and Maldives. I heard too, that there are lots of activities for tourists that’s why many have flown to there to get a glimpse of a tropical paradise.

I would love to see the Christ the Redeemer statue atop a mountain in Rio de Janiero, or buy myself original Havaianas (they say you can buy them at convenience stores there), or go around the forests and see different animals or simply be caught in the rain.!

But these are the three best things in Brazil: (1) Capoeira: the native martial arts that combines dance and fighting techiniques alongside acrobatic moves and music that players create themselves. (2) Coffee! It’s one of the country’s sources of income and greatly abundant there. And what goes best with coffee you may ask? (3) Bossa Nova–Brazilian Music that sounds a little like samba or jazz minus the percussions. Today we also call it coffee house music.

Believe it or not, Bossa Nova has been around since the late 1950’s but was not very evident worldwide. The slow, rythmic tunes suggest a rather romantic and relaxing feel to the listeners of this kind of music. The first, and probably the most successful of all Bossa Nova songs is Astrud Gilberto’s The Girl From Ipanema“, and I might add, it has numerous revivals from various artists from around the globe today. Ella Fitgerald and Frank Sinatra had their share of Bossa Nova singing as well. Michael Buble, on the other hand is the first person I can think of when one I here those kind of songs nowadays.

Oh well, I guess I can only go to Brazil for now thru the net and thru music!

We can all have a Brazilian feel without the need to learn Portuguese, get a visa or have vaccination shots–Bossa Nova simply takes us there!
