Eric Whitacre: My New Discovery

Having an open ear to all kinds of music is a definite plus. Before, I didn’t have this and thought that music revolved only around pop, rock, alternative, and hip-hop for me. I never realized how good it was to listen to classical music.
I recently found out about Eric Whitacre and bought some of his music on iTunes. I thought to myself it wouldn’t hurt to listen to classical, (since I always thought this music would put me to sleep) I gave it a go. After listening to some of his music. I was definitely taken aback. My word was his music in my terms: “Fantacular” (Of course, it was fantastic ans spectacular at the same time).
Eric Whitacre can fuse poetry with music like hot knife though butter. Very obvious in his compositions using Nobel-prize winner Octavio Paz’s poems. Amazingly though, Paz was encouraged by another poet named Pablo Neruda to pursue his poetic passion. Neruda is one of my heroes and also my reason to become a writer, maybe not a poet but I can still express myself with a stroke of my pen.
Eric Whitacre also composed numerous music for various poets as well like Emily Dickinson, Edmund Waller, & Federica Garcia Lorca. With such extraordinay talent, this man is just so hard to miss!
I had a wonderful experience interviewing Mr. Whitacre. Although it may not be face-to-face, it was still worthwhile. The fact that he took time to answer all my queries was big enough reason to see that no matter how famous you are you still remain grounded and in touch with your roots. I admire that in a person. See my interview here.
Wrapping-up, I highly recommend listening to Eric Whitacre, his latest album, Cloudburst: And Other Choral Works is now available and I am awaiting for mine to arrive soon.
Arrivederci!

I have always loved listening to my compilation of classical songs from The Three Tenors, Juan Diego, Russel Watson, Petrica Petibon, Rene Fleming and of course, Josh Groban!
So, we’re now on the same boat, Abby. And in that boat, we’re in for some lulling, which is perfect for our dates with our cutie boyfriend/husband as well.
